Golden Lake

We will be moving to GZ in a few months time and wanted to find out more about living in Golden Lake area, things like:
-how big the appartments\houses are(sqm)
-any pictures to give me an idea would be great (nothing that google could find)
-playgrounds around
-shopping
-transport
Anything that might be usefull.

Golden lake is one of the best residential complex in guangzhou. It`s a totally expats community. all the properties are houses. the size is different from 250sqm to 400sqm. the facility inside is very good. one international school and one golf ground.
by car about 20mins to the city centre(shopping mall)

Pros :
1. Some houses have very big and nice gardens
2. Expat community and friendly neighbourhood
3. Shuttle bus to city available

Cons:
1. Bad property management
2. There are many trucks and lorries travelling recklessly along the road leading to Golden Lake. Traffic is very bad at night especially Friday night.
3. Nearest shopping center is at least 20 min car-ride away on a good day

There are a number of houses that are infested with termites, so some families were busy swopping houses last week. So if you decide to stay there, make sure that the management has done a very thorough check on the house.

I too will be moving to Guangzhou in a few months. Does the Golden Lake Gardens have a website or a brochure that can be sent to me? If so can somebody provide an address to write to. Lynn13 thanks for the candid comments. Can you provide more information. Does anyone know the differences between the smaller European style houses and the medium sized US style houses? I also heard phase 3 will start soon where monster houses are being built but have all been "allocated" to Procter & Gamble. Any truth to this. If anyone has any photos could they please post them or send to me.

All in all, more information from anyone would be very appreicated.

I have been living in Golden Lake for a while now and have not found an International School here but there is one just across the lake and definately no golf course. This is a great place to live if you have children as there are lots of kids here. Phase 3 has already started which means there is alot of noise and dust and even though the management promised work would finish by 6pm continues until 9pm also on weekends . However these are not going to be large houses but more like duplexes and apartments and definately not reserved for P&G. For the moment there are only expats living here but from next year all the houses are going to be sold off to private owners so then will be open to the Chinese. The facilities here are pretty bad compared to other compounds in GZ as we have no restaurants which being so far out of the city is a pain sometimes. Oh and the security is not so good as we have had several breakins in the last month or two.

Besides all that it really is quite a nice place to live the community here is great the kids love it and where ever you choose to live in GZ you will find problems of some sort. so good luck
