Roku Roku Japanese Restaurant
Posted by strangedudette (1186 days ago)
By far the my BEST dining experience since coming to GZ! Prices are on the high end, but worth every cent. Food is tasty and very fresh. Service staff friendly and knowledgable about the dishes, which is such a rarity...
Location: G/F Xiang Long Garden, 177 North Tianhe Road,GZ (In the same building as Hilbert's Momo salon) Tel: (020)2233 3066

Is this japanese restaurant close by the Garden Hotel?
Thanks! - Fernando

Nope. This is in Tianhe. Same area as Di Matteo but more on the side.
Agree with the rating. By far, one of the best restaurants in GZ. Always an experience. Sushi is worth every RMB

This posting seems a bit old, and there has been no subsequent replies since 172 days ago, and I wonder why.
I went to this place on Saturday, and was extremely disappointed. Paid over RMB600, and it really should not worth that much. It was ordinary to say the least and the ambience was not exactly that special. Staff, can only say are friendlier than most in China, but again nothing much else.
Their special avocado soft-shell crab sushi, my god, you cannot get any more bland than this. The best tasting of this type is, unfortunately, found on the other side of the world, Vancouver, Canada (sorry can't remember the name. have to ask my brother)! Their avocado soft-shell crab sushi is so advanced that they pour hot sesame seed sauce on top, and imagine that! It is just heavenly!
For RMB600, I can get a very decent Japanese meal in London, Vancouver and NY with better experience.
Has anyone visited this place lately and can offer more insights with their personal experiences?
Another note is that the bakery next to Di Matteo's , yes that one is good, very decent selections of bread and pastries. Walnut and Raisin bread is indeed very nice. And I have finally found a place to buy pesto and sun-dried tomatoes!
Next, can anyone tell me where I may be able to find good lamb chops, steaks, etc.?

Metro is the place for this. No doubt about that. In Tianhe. Look up the site on the internet....

I surely will, thanks ebrenchley!
btw, isn't Metro a membership / warehouse-type of thing that you need to apply for a card first in order to shop there? Surely they open to retail too? I did not even know that there is a Metro here in GZ! Only knew there is a handful of them in Shanghai.

Metro is open to retail now. You do need a membership though. Just bring along your ID/passport and a business card(don't know if that's necessary) to sign up. They'll take a photo of you there.
Metro is located next to B&Q in Yuan Cun. If you take a taxi, try to get a yellow taxi and tell the driver to go to Bai An Jun (B&Q in Chinese) in Yuan Cun. It's about 25 minutes from Teem Mall.
