No Greek, quite a few Turkish, a Lebanese, and a Syrian restaurant.
cheers from Ruth, who thinks we really NEED a Greek restaurant in GZ.There isn't on in HK either!!!!
Posted by gregbruster (1086 days ago)
Hi Ruth, only when you taste greek food you'll see what you are missing so far !!!!
Posted by selini (1057 days ago)
What do you mean by greek food anyway? The greek salad - you cannot get the right feta here - overboiled vegs, fried patates or fried fish???Anything interesting keftetakia, paitakia depends on the material and is of turkish origin anyway
Posted by gregbruster (1056 days ago)
Greek food= mousaka, pastitsio,salad with feta,dolmades,etc.
Keftedakia & paidakia is greek origin for sure !
Posted by selini (1056 days ago)
Dating back to turkish occupation of over 400 years, that's for sure!( pastitsio though comes from the Ionean islands and is a poor version of italian food like yemistes).Sorry
Posted by gregbruster (1055 days ago)
Greek food was made before turkish occupation, people in Konstantinople(Instabul)were making these kind of food called "politiki kouzina".Many foods that you know today as turkish are realy created by the people in Konstantinople. Pastitsio is created by greeks who moved to Italy many-many years ago, especially in Sicely.Sorry
Posted by selini (1055 days ago)
Yeah, I've seen politiki kusina and my big fat greek wedding...... and I ADORE GREECE!Greece is blessed with so many good things, but not a good cuisine.
Posted by Ruth at Clifford (1055 days ago)
Okay, then, which is the best Turkish restaurant in Guangzhou?
cheers from Ruth

I wrote to the Greek Club in HK and the guys didn't know of any Greek restaurants there. So there may be restaurants that serve Greek food, but they aren't greek restaurants.
OUPA! from Ruth
Posted by gregbruster (1026 days ago)
Hi Ruth, where is the greek club in HK ?? any address ? website ? by the way,it's OPA ! not oupa. Thanks
Posted by nopalmx (1024 days ago)
I have been to the Ottoman restaurant many times and the food there is delicious to me, specially the rice puddin dessert...it worth going there just for that!
I have found a decent feta cheese (not the best) in Carrefour...also the olives...

Posted by sam1978 (892 days ago)
stay away from little italy, its terrible, we went the other night, and there was not one person in the place, the manager is indian and doesnt speak english, could not even tell us what the specals were, the toliets are disgusting, we left after the first course becuase it was so bad, doesnt anyone find it strange that such a great italian place would be offering to make greek food!
Posted by griffy (873 days ago)
Strange that, my wife and I went on Valentines night and the food was not bad (definitely not the best, because I think Milano now is still better than it, and I have not tried the other ones posted on this website). The Indian manager could speak English, but I think there were two and I only spoke with one.
Not that strange with an Italian cooking Greek food, because any Greek friends here will agree with me that there are many Italian chefs who can cook a good moussaka!

Hi on replay to sam
i left the Little Italy very fast, i work less than one month, because they don't pay the staff & they buy bad quality of food, sure the management is sh..... but during the time i was there , the food was perfect, im 28 years experience chef , with few awards in the world, i don't change my style of cooking, look at my working place now, http://www.mediterraneo.cn & welcome if you come to Shanghai,
reguarding the manager , also if is lier & bull.... person, you make mistake , because he can speak good english, if you don't like the place is ok, but don't invent story that don't existe.
about Italian that cook greek??, you must to know that during my 28 years experience i spend 5 years in Cyprus, running 2 restaurant , 1 italian & 1 greek, so............
on replay to griffy
onestly i dont think that Milano is the best, i come in guangzhou 2 years ago, i was working in Milano restaurant pull up milano restaurant t'll make a very good business, for 1 year, but after like all the chinese owner, they start to cut quality, salary, staff ecc, 8 month after a left , he joint the restaurant one other good italian chef & my friend, but he run away faster after only 1 month ( owner always drunk, dirty place, mouse in kitchen ecc.. no more controll of quality ) they let the place go down, really if they take care more the restaurant , can be one of the best in GZ
from the new i've now, the good place for italian ( specially pizza ) is Oggi, ask about chef Raffaele & he can help you, all the other Italian restaurant don't have Iany italian chef or management, at you any deduction
in any case ,if any come to Shanghai , have a good dinner in Mediterraneo Restaurant in Wuding Xi Road, http://www.mediterraneo.cn

Greek Restaurants, definately try Niko's
It's on the 3rd floor of the Citic Plaza (Zhong Xin) amazing place, very nice buffet with great salads and pasta, i don't eat seafood but they have plenty of that too. The soup is not to be missed here. I've been 5 times for the buffet and once on valentines day for the set menu, also amazing. Give it a shot.
Posted by bigdaddyhk (778 days ago)
Are you serious about Niko's? The place was definately good when it first opened, however, i think it's gone seriously downhill since then. I work in the building so used to eat there quite often. They had an American manager/chef for a while and during that time the food was great.
Posted by Ruth at Clifford (777 days ago)
I wasn't impressed when I was at Nikos for lunch. Definitely catering to the Chinese crowd and very little Greek food in evidence.
cheers from Ruth

Greek Food:Cheche: an Italian cafe,Jianshe Road 6, near Garden Hotel : Along with traditional pasta, the international menu includes Greek salad and hamburger...Chef there can make few other greek dishes, on order.
In HK: Bacchu's, WAN CHAI. This cozy basement restaurant, decorated rather simply with mirrors and a few antiques, has the warm feel of home. While Bacchus's menu contains quite a few Greek dishes, diners also are encouraged to sample some of their more eclectic offerings from other Mediterranean countries such as Italy, Turkey, and Spain. The mezze platter here is outstanding, as is the moussaka, which is the perfect dish to enjoy on a weekend night while being serenaded by the evening's live entertainment. As you would expect, Bacchus also has traditional favorites like beef and chicken kabobs. Reservations are suggested. MTR: Wan Chai.
* The Ionian Grill is a Greek style restaurant a few blocks from Texas Christian University that also serves some continental dishes. The food is fresh, the cooking excellent, and the prices are just ... more

The Polo Restaurant in Luhou does a great Greek Souvla BBQ on saturdays.. and an Aussie BBQ on sundays.. Has a live band and the food really is terrific with a real western chef. They are on Sheenan rd just up from the mixC. They have a web page www.polorestaurantchina.com
Posted by sunshine coast (738 days ago)
Yes. Have to agree the food at Polo is superb. have been there a few times and reccomend their Aussie Burger.. They have Aussie beer but unfortunately not on tap..aaah well we are in China...Sensational nachos too..
