Thai Zhen Cow & Bridge at 54 Shamian Beijie on Shamian Island.
I went there for dinner on Friday night and thought it was pretty good! The mixed entree came with 6 different sauces which was a great touch. The Thai salad with seafood and eggplant had the most divine dressing and loads of fresh chilli that added the right flavour balance without burning my mouth up. Good Massaman beef curry as well.

I had heard of the Yummi cafe one time and I swear I looked all over Grandview Mall for it, starting with the 3rd floor. I didn't have a number, but I remembered third floor and tried there first. But the place is like a maze and of course nothing is in English, and the local employees have never heard of a Thai restaurant there. After an hour and endless trudging I gave up and ended up at Pizza Hut. Can you give directions or tell what it is near?

What about a good green curry with coconut milk and lemon grass? Or Tom Ka Gai? Cow and Bridge on Shamian seems too Chinese to me, Banana leaf seems too greasy. Tian He Cow and Bridge seems closer but not remarkable. I've gotten some good Thai food out at the Japanese / Thai restaurant at Clifford Estates, but that's long way to go from the city. Thanks everyone for your replies and suggestions . . . maybe I should try some of the specific menu suggestions you've made.

The next time you go to Tian He Cow and Bridge, tell them that you want authentic Thai. If you don't specify, they will normally serve you Thai food that is "localised". We tried there many times without specifying and didn't think that the food was good until one day when we told the waitress to tell the chef not to "localise". Then the food turned out to be much, much better.
Tried Yummy food and didn't think that it is good at all.

i love thai food but have failed to find anything authentic here. Do they have thai chefs at cow and bridge, tianhe? I will try the non-localised food next time :)

I'm Thai people. Normally, when I go to Thai restaurant, I have to ask Thai taste.
For restaurant that I recommened is in Tee Mall. I'm not sure 5 or 6 floor. The name is "Chai Moung Klong". But you have to tell them that you need Thai Taste not Chiness Taste. Papaya Salad in my opion is the best that I taste in Guangzhou. Yam Mu Yo is OK. My husband like Tom Yam Kung here. :>
