moving to guangzhou

I am new here. I am going to relocate from Gold Coast, Australia to guangzhou in coming sept. I wanna to feel the city life in guangzhou, any suggestion? My main concern is safety as I am there alone- woman.

The SYSU is the most beautiful place in Guangzhou. The Blue garden behind the campus is good. There are many real estate agents in Bing Jiang Dong Road, you can ask any one.

Coming from a beach place, I would like to feel the dynamic of GZ. I am thinking to rent a apartment in Tianhe. I heard about a place call Citic Plaza which is close to the train station. Is that good? Do I need to worry about the safety issue if I live around Tianhe?

This area`s apt price is the most expensive area in Guangzhou. The traffic is very bad. But you can take Metro to SYSU. The CITIC PLAZA area has: Metro Paradise, Concordia, Tianyu Garden, The nearest Metro Station is Lin He Xi.

Is safety a concern for single women? My work timetable is very flexible so I guess I can avoid the traffic. Safety is my main concern since I heard that the crime rate is high around the train station.

Guangzhou has two train station. The old Guangzhou Train Station was a high crime rate place. The Guangzhou East Train Station is much safer. I think it is the most safe area in Guangzhou because the government take it as the FACE of the city. CITIC plaza is beside the Guangzhou East Train station. But where-ever you live in Guangzhou, take care of your mobile, money,card, wallet....

If you get offer from SYSU, which campus will you work ? I used to be the student of the University, i study in the North campus, in the center of the city.

But if you work in the Daxuecheng Campus, You 'd better find another place , not CITIC Plaza, Too far away.
If you work in the South Compus in the Haizhu District, you should take advice of "guinaigu ", take a apartment near the BingjiangEast Road (Beautiful Sence and Safe Neibourhood)

Guangzhou has many pick pockets but otherwise Guangzhou is a safe city. As a foreign woman you can feel very safe when walking around town.

Of course like in any big city of over 12 million people, use common sense and don't hang around the station in the middle of the night in areas without many lights.

I am an Aussie and feel safer here in Guangzhou & have more freedom than Australia.
You will love it.
